Small World jobs - Back End Developer

Small World is a proximity-based mobile social discovery platform with the mission to reduce the degrees of separation between people locally.  

The product is a native mobile-based application that will enable shared experiences between people in their visible vicinity thereby leading to friendship, relationship, and network building. 

As our first employee, you will be responsible for architecting the backend of our social discovery platform.

Responsibilities  

• Work with the iOS and Android developers to architect the backend database
• Collaborate with Front-end developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic
• Design the database with clean and efficient code 
• Design and implement REST APIs
• Build reusable code and libraries for future use
• Test the MVP and iterate it towards product-market fit
• Interface with early adopters/beta testers to gather feedback 
• Eventually, help hire and head a team of back end developers
• Subsequently, participate in product strategy
• Implement solutions to make codebase robust and bug-free
• Practice lean startup framework (BML loop, genchi gembutsu, a/b and split testing, small batch sizing) to guide product development  
• Assist with user adoption through viral growth strategies
• Assist in user recruitment and user feedback implementation  

Skills + Qualification

•  1 to 5 years of experience working in a software development/ software engineering role
•  Undergraduate/ Postgraduate Degree in Computer Science/ Software Engineering
• Experience with cloud servers - Google App Engine/AWS 
• PHP/ Java/ Node.js/ Ruby on Rails/ Google Firebase
• MySQL, bonus - MongoDB/ DynamoDB 
• REST API 
• Familiarity with front-end languages (e.g. HTML, JavaScript, and CSS)
