Walrus Overview

We are a pre-seed funded startup building the next-generation banking and rewards platform for the 100 million teenagers in India with the objective of giving them financial freedom and teaching them good money habits.

What role are we hiring for?

We are looking for a backend engineer with an experience of about 3-6 years. Having said that, we realize that measuring knoweldge by number of years vastly over-simplifies everyone's individuality, but it does serve as a rough indicator. If you fullfill the requirements in the next section, then you are good fit irrespective of your years of experience.

Who are we looking for?

A backend engineer comfortable working on the server-side:

• Ability to write clean server-side APIs
• Good knowledge of AWS or GCP cloud platforms
• Keen eye to automate: application deployments, infrastructure deployments, security testing and integration testing

What else is important?

-You are a polyglot programmer who can write complex/idiomatic programs in multiple languages. Mainly Java and JavaScript (Node.js)

-You can write clean, modular code in either Object-Oriented style or Functional style.

-You can simplify complex product requirements into technical requirements and have the ability to communicate the same to the engineering peers.

-You shipped code to production recently, regularly.

-You are driven and care about doing a good job and improving your craft.

-You have experience and use the tools like : version control systems (Git/GitLab/GitHub),fluency in an editor of your choice, command line (bash/zsh) and have a good understanding of *nix based systems

-You have high integrity, and you are reliable.

What will be the Interview process?

The interview process will consist of 6 steps -

1. Preliminary Call- Call with one of the founders to assess fitment
2. Assignment - you will be given an assignment which forms the basis of the next discussion. Your assignment quality will determine whether you proceed to the next round.
3. Technical discussion - In-depth discussion on your assignment, technical knowledge, and work ethics
4. Getting to know you better - In-depth discussion about your experience and your goals
5. Vibe check - Final call to assess whether you will fit in the family or not
6. Offer call - If all goes well, we will extend you an offer that you can refuse
