NIAS, invites applications/nominations for the position of Indira Gandhi Chair for
Environmental Sciences at the Institute, which has been instituted by the Indira Gandhi
Memorial Trust, New Delhi.
The purpose of the Indira Gandhi Chair is to complement the ongoing efforts at NIAS in
addressing the complex challenges facing India and global society in the area of
Environmental Sciences. The Chair is expected to conduct research in any field related
to Environmental Sciences, as well as participate in training and teaching activities. The
Chair will also be provided support in terms of JRF/Project Associate/Post-Doc.
The candidate should be a person of eminence and distinction from India or abroad and
shall be aimed at enabling fruitful collaboration on a sustained basis between specialists
in different disciplines and the NIAS faculty. The broad subjects could include natural
sciences, engineering, social sciences related to environment.
The duration of appointment to Chair will be generally three years or less. Nominations
must include a summary of the nominee’s work (about 1000 words),a list of the most
important publications, and the work the nominee would like to carry out during the
period he or she occupies the Indira Gandhi Chair.
