Job Description

Consultant job opportunities in ICFRE - Himalayan Forest Research Institute 

Essential:  a. PhD. degree in any of the disciplines relevant to Forest Ecology/Forestry/ Ecology/ Landscape Ecology/ Life Sciences/ Environment/River Ecology and Conservation/ Wildlife Science' Hydmlogy/ Soil Science. 

(b) Professional experience minimum 25 years in Natural Resource Management/ Forest Management/ Watershed Management/ Water Resources by way of working in the relevant Central/ State Department(s)/ Research or Academic organizations of repute/ International Agencies 

(c) Should have at least 5-years experience in projects mainly involving planning and management or natural resources. Should be well acquainted with policies and laws related to river, water, forests, wildlife, hydrology and environment. 

Desirable: (a) Experience in handling national and intemational Projects. 

(b) Experience in similar consultancy or assignment relevant to planning and management of natural resources across large landscapes/ riverscapes/ seascapes involving forest lands, protected areas, agriculture lands, urban areas, industrial establishments and other areas of biodiversity importance. 

(c) Publications: Preparation of scientific and technical reports,' DPRs/ Published research papers in peer ræviewed joumals of national and intenlational repute.


Age Limit:65 Years

Duration : Initial period of 160 days (20 days each month) bui extendable iiirther as per requirement. 

Remuneration : The Consultant would receive a fixed remuneration of Rs. 6,000/- per day as the professional fee payable to him/her every month. In addition, Consultant would receive necessary support from HFRI, Shimla by way of suitable office facilities, secretarial assistance, accommodation/guest house, travel expenses for field/site visits. and transport during travel to Shimla and project related sites besides technical backstopping/ facilitation by other technical expens/units involved in the project (e.g., RS and GIS expertise for riverscape analysis, iniörmation from project specific databases, expen on SMC works, treatment models, etc.) those would be pertinent for successful completion 01' the assignment. The Consultant would be responsible to pay necessary taxes as applicable.

Selection Procedure:The Director, HERI, Shimla would constitute a Committee for shortlisting, selection and making recommendations about the envisaged Consultant. The Committee would follow an objective criterion for ranking/ selection of applicants keeping in view the qualifications and experience as announced.

About Company

The journey of ICFRE was initiated way back towards the end of the nineteenth century with the advent of scientific forestry in India and the establishment of the Forest School in Dehradun in 1878. It was on 5th June 1906 subsequently that the Imperial Forest Research Institute was founded by Government of India for taking forward forestry research in the country.  In 1986 the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education or ICFRE was formed as an umbrella organisation for taking care of forestry research, education and extension needs of the country. Finally on 1st June 1991, the ICFRE was declared an autonomous Council under the then Ministry of Environment and Forests and registered as a Society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860.
