TheRole: Data Analyst, World Refinery Database

The Team
The Hyderabad team is an important part of Analytics Operations, which owns the data, methodologies, and models that feed our Analytics reports and provides actionable insights for our clients who require transparency into trade flows to support making decisions.
The Impact
Data is in demand, and our clients value our data driven approach to commodity market research and analysis. You will primarily be focused on supporting the maintenance and improvements to the World Refinery Database.

Responsibilities
- Assist in the maintenance and expansion of Platts Analytics World Refinery Database, monitoring new capacity developments and cross-checking information on specific refineries.
- Work on refinery CDU and downstream unit outages.
- Support the monthly Global Refining Outlook Report and weekly outage summary.
- Work on development and implementation of enhancements to the product, including gas-to-liquids, oil sands, and heavy oil upgrading projects.
- Conduct detailed research on specific refineries or refining companies. Track ownership changes and investment cost trends.
- Analyze trends in refinery operations and compare to capacity.
- Support assessment of changes in refined product quality worldwide and refineries ability to meet standards.
- Examine changes in the worldwide olefins industry with particular regard to new capacity, feedstock flexibility, and demand growth.
- Prepare graphics and tables for ongoing reports, meetings, and seminars.
- Handle routine client ad-hoc requests and questions.
Basic Qualifications
What We’re Looking For:
- A high level of mathematical ability
- Basic understanding of refinery operations
- 5+ years of experience and strong interest in energy markets and working with data
- Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL experience
- Moderate to advanced Excel skills
- Accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent time management skills, consistently adheres to deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working data with scripting languages like Python or MATLAB
- Understanding of the software development cycle and version control
- Experience working in a corporate environment
