Purpose Statement

This position works independently to assist R&D engineers for equipment selection, product testing, DA lab equipment and process ownership.

Key Responsibilities

Support R&D engineers in assembling prototypes/products for testing.
Utilize basic mechanical drawing or CAD software to inspect prototypes and fixtures.
Perform and Summarize test data for mechanical testing.
Act as an SME to operate, program and perform trouble shooting on mechanical equipment and gauges. Train and guide new/junior engineers on equipment for same activities.
Perform and review trials in DA lab as per customer requests.
Act as an SME for R&D customers and work with them as an internal consultant on equipment selection for establishing test specification, as applicable.
Perform and review equipment maintenance activities in DA lab, as applicable.
Perform and review equipment calibration activities in DA lab, as applicable. Review calibration results provided by external vendors.
Lead and perform equipment qualification activities to perform installation and operation qualification.
Author and update lab quality systems related and equipment specific procedures and work instructions.
Own and drive DA lab equipment/systems related non-conformances and CAPA.
Work with supplier engineering group to select new suppliers for DA lab for services, supplies and equipment, as applicable.
Identify and drive opportunities for lean/value improvement/simplification initiatives for efficient lab operation.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s (or higher) degree in engineering with preference mechanical engineering, plastics and polymer engineering and biomedical engineering.
10+ years of experience in product mechanical performance testing
- 5+ years in leading product mechanical performance testing
- 3-4 years of hands on experience in mechanical test equipment qualification and management
Good communication Skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft software (Excel, Word)

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of testing equipment
Knowledge of medical device assembly and manufacturing

Manufacturing experience
Product Development experience
Lab experience preferred
