Job Description

Position Purpose:

Kimberly-Clark Global Product Safety & Clinical Affairs is seeking a Head Toxicologist to provide direction and oversight for product safety, ingredient hazard and health risk assessment, and stewardship improvement programs to ensure K-C products are safe for their intended use, comply with global chemical regulations and all other applicable governmental safety rules, regulations, corporate standards and consumer expectations. The incumbent is responsible for the oversight and work direction of a group of toxicology and chemical management professionals supporting Kimberly-Clark’s global consumer and professional businesses. This position is located in Mumbai, India.

In addition, the incumbent will be personally responsible for delivering expert hazard identification following state-of-the art toxicologic risk assessment methodologies. The incumbent will be responsible for developing, refining and peer reviewing complex toxicologic and biocompatibility safety assessments of ingredients and raw materials according to the intended product use, and providing guidance to business sectors and senior management on programs and initiatives to continuously reduce product chemical hazards through design and stewardship.

Principal Responsibilities

• Oversee a comprehensive program to evaluate chemicals and ingredients based on inherent hazard to human and environmental health, state-of the art alternatives assessment approaches, and provide expert guidance to continuously reduce chemical hazards.
• Provide work direction to personnel responsible for conducting and authoring chemical and ingredient hazard assessments for components used in a range of consumer and personal care products through review of scientific literature, physiochemical and toxicity safety data. Establish processes to ensure data integrity, accuracy and maintenance of assessments with new and emerging science.
• Lead communications and engagement for internal K-C customers, provide effective training and mentorship, collaborate within multi-functional teams, and communicate toxicology, biocompatibility and safety information, technical position papers and human health risk assessments to internal and external technical experts as well as program and business sector leaders.
• Document and author complex ingredient and component hazard assessments that support human health safety assessments and chemical regulatory compliance of finished products, taking into consideration identified hazards and exposure according to the intended product use. Provide expert guidance to the product development community on safe design to minimize product hazards and effectively manage residual risk.
• Lead and manage the design, monitoring and interpretation of chemical characterization analyses, in vitro and in vivo toxicology, safety testing, and biocompatibility conducted under Good Laboratory Practices (GLP),and when applicable, clinical studies conducted under Good Clinical Practices (GCP).
  

Basic Qualifications

• Degree in toxicology, pharmacology, biomedical or related scientific field with relevant product safety experience in the design, development, regulatory approval and maintenance of products in global markets;
• Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of experience, or
• Master’s degree with 7+ years of experience, or
• PhD, MD, DVM with 5+ years of experience
• Demonstrated ability to provide work guidance and mentorship to people from diverse backgrounds and cultures and/or multi-national teams in a matrix, cross-functional or direct reporting relationship. Excellent project, workflow and visual management skills.
• Excellent interpersonal communication and technical writing skills with demonstrated proficiency working effectively with technical staff from diverse backgrounds and cultures and multi-national cross-functional business teams. Demonstrated ability to collaborate and influence key decision makers, including C-Suite and Senior Leaders, regulatory authorities, and external Key Opinion Leaders.
• Demonstrated proficiency in authoring complex chemical hazard assessments and quantitative health risk assessments on a broad range of chemicals and the ability to independently design and implement effective testing strategies and protocols to identify potential human health and environmental hazards through accepted or novel scientific methods and techniques.
• Comprehensive knowledge in global regulatory science, risk assessment practices, risk management and quality management system requirements associated with the development, commercialization and manufacture of medical device, personal care, cosmetic, drug and consumer products in global markets.
• Certification by the American Board of Toxicology (DABT) or other equivalent scientific or medical professional certification.
• Ability to communicate fluently (speak, read, write) in English.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Demonstrated proficiency working within SAP database environments and Microsoft programs.
