The Commission will hold the West Bengal Legal Service Examination 2018 for recruitment to the posts of Law Officer under the West Bengal Legal Service.

Qualification: (i) A citizen of India or such a person of other nationality as declared eligible by Government of India. (ii) A degree in Law from a recognized University. (iii) Ability to read, write and speak in Bengali (not required for those whose mother tongue is Nepali vide Finance Deptt. Notification no. 1243-F(P) dt.02.03.2016)

Age : Not less than 23 years and not more than 36 years on 01.01.2018

Pay Scale : Rs.15,600-42,000

No.of Vacancy : 35 (Unreserved –15, SC – 06, ST – 02, BC(Category-A) – 05, BC(Category-B) – 05 and PH – 02 ( VH- 01 & OH-01 ).

The Examination will be held in two successive parts, viz., (i) Written Examination (Part-I) and (ii) Personality Test (Part-II). The Written Examination will be held in Kolkata centre only in 2 nd week of December,2018 or thereabout followed by the Personality Test. The Personality Test of the candidates to be selected on the results of the written examination will be held at the Commission’s office in Kolkata.

Application Fee : Rs.210/- (Rupees two hundred ten) only + Service Charge 1% of Examination Fee subject to a minimum of Rs.5/- only for online payment through debit/credit card plus service charge /GST as applicable as Govt. Duty or Service Charge of Rs.5/- only for Net Banking or Service Charge of Rs.20/- (Rupees Twenty) only for payment through Bank Counter (off-line payment).

The origin and evolution of Public Service Commission in India can be traced back to the democratic demands raised by the Indians and consequence thereof. As far back as 1856 educated Indians raised the demand for admission into the Indian Civil Service, and the Indian National Congress adopted a resolution on its foundation in 1885 demanding holding of simultaneous examination for the I.C.S. both in England and in India. Such demands were supplementary to the demands raised in the Indian National Movement for self-government.
