Your Role and ResponsibilitiesAs a Mainframe Network Engineer, you will provide strategic advice for both IBM and customer run projects like mainframe processor upgrades, TCP/IP network hardware infrastructure refresh, 3745 replacement, Enterprise Extender rollout.Network software evaluation to ensure appropriate support for production services - functional comparisons of software, compatibility with existing software base, and supportability/operation.
Provision of support and consultancy for IBM owned in-house written network/user access software.
You will provide product information, education and presentations on network software (IBM and ISV) for client. Responsibilities:- Project Management and implementation of network software upgrades, including close liaison for testing and implementation with client network service provider, client application teams, and other IBM teams (as in the case of a z/OS operating system upgrade).
- Change and Problem Management
- Manage and Implement network definition changes to customer requests.
- Problem diagnosis and resolution, including monitoring of problem queues; liaison with client network service provider, client technical support teams, client applications teams and directly with end users; liaison with IBM support centre; application of config changes/software maintenance or other corrective actions; monitor and apply preventative maintenance
- Attend weekly problem meetings, weekly change meetings and adhoc crisis review meetings (with customer, service management and other areas)
- Compliance - ensure mainframe network environment complies with security rules agreed by IBM and client.
- Perform account Health checking for supported products on accounts eg Netview FTP and Connect Direct
- Resolve Cirats Issues for Integrity related to mainframe Network across supported accounts.
- Provide 24 x 7 support (including out of hours support) on a rota basis. Also provide support on overtime basis, where necessary
- Configuration of Network Communications Controller hardware (various 3745 models) including liaising with client network service provider over wide-area network connections.
- Network Performance monitoring and tuning.
- Disaster Recovery, planning and execution of tests, including client access to DR systems during production network service.
- Create and maintain network documentation.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise- Minimum 10+ yearsâ experience in Mainframe z/OS
- Experience in acquisition, installation, configuration, customisation and support of IBM and ISV network software, including:
- Proficient in z/OS Communications Server, ie. VTAM & TCP/IP
- Expertise in Network management software (includes NetView and NPM)
- Experience in File transfer software (includes TCP/IP FTP, Netview FTP and Connect:Direct)
- Working knowledge of Session Management software (includes CA-TPX, CA-Solve Access and Candle SuperSession)
- Solid understanding of printing software (includes InfoPrint server and LRS VPS)
- In-depth experience in NCP and NPSI/X25, Network hardware specification and configuration and specification of mainframe Open Systems Adapters, including liaising with client network service provider over connections to LAN/WAN.
