Duties And Responsibilities
- Develops, implements, and monitors package designs for new and existing products. This includes conducting development/qualification tests and pilots.
- Establishes and implements standardized specifications and test procedures to optimize package performance, quality, and operational efficiencies.
- Oversees the prototyping and testing of new designs, including the interpretation of test results.
- Leads technical projects ranging from individual research to management of complex projects and cross-functional teams.
- Develops and implements design standards for projects.
- Collaborates with internal and external partners to research, identify, and qualify new/alternative components, materials and designs to optimize quality, performance, or manufacturability.
- Communicates with stakeholders to ensure successful new product implementations and launches.
- Provides technical and professional leadership throughout the organization in support of project, department, and company goals.
- Uses data driven decision processes to draw conclusions from test results and provides guidance to drive for a results-oriented approach.
- Runs Engineering Change Requests in support of new package development, sustaining, and VA/VE projects.
- Creates drawings and specifications for packaging components ranging from die cut corrugate to injection molded plastics.
- Prepares cost estimates involved in changing current packaging to new packaging design; estimates savings expected as a result
- Reviews and revises packaging designs to meet departmental productivity goals.
Essential Skills And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a Technical Program (Packaging Engineering or related Engineering field)
- 2-6 years of experience in a packaging design and engineering, leading project improvements and new product development initiatives is preferred.
- ArtiosCAD experience, Illustrator, Creo, and Cape Pack in the design and development of packaging designs and specifications
- Ability to lead and coordinate projects and teams to optimize results and success.
- Demonstrated ability to work across functions and among a variety of levels within an organization, on individual and group projects
- Proven experience designing and developing packaging for Retail, Commercial, and E-commerce products
- Strong problem-solving abilities
- Must be able to manage multiple projects and meet established timelines.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Aptitude to author technical reports and specification documents.
- Reliable and self-motivated
- Must be open-minded, flexible, and able to adapt easily to changing priorities and accept new ideas quickly
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Experience designing die cut corrugate and paper, thermoformed plastic, molded pulp, molded foam, fabricated foam, and injection molded packaging components
- Experience designing and working with pallet specifications
- Experience with graphic design and printing technology
- Previous experience with PLM software and ECN processes
