Advertisement for Admission to Full-Time Ph.D. Program
Autumn Semester, Academic Year 2019-2020
Applications are invited ONLINE for admission to the Ph.D. Program for the Academic Year 2019-2020
starting from July 2019.
Minimum Eligibility Criteria (refer to BOTH the Sections I and II below): IA. General Eligibility Criteria for Engineering Streams (Computer Science & Engineering,
Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering)
For GEN/OBC (NC)
ONE of the following:
a) Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent degree with
a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate
OR
a minimum CGPA/CPI of 6.0 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 6.0 on other corresponding
proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.
OR
First class as specified by the university
b) B. Tech/M. Sc in Engineering/Technology or equivalent degree with
a minimum of 70% marks in aggregate
OR
a minimum CGPA/CPI of 7.0 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 7.0 on other corresponding
proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.
AND
Additional requirements as listed in Section II below.
For SC/ST/PwD
ONE of the following:
c) Master’s Degree in Engineering/Technology or equivalent degree with
a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate
OR
a minimum CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 5.5 on other corresponding
proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.
d) B. Tech/M. Sc in Engineering/Technology or equivalent degree with
a minimum of 65% marks in aggregate
OR
a minimum CGPA/CPI of 6.5 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 6.5 on other corresponding
proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.
AND
Additional requirements as listed in Section II below.
For IIT B.Tech. and M.Tech. degree holders
Candidates having a last qualifying degree (i.e. B.Tech. or M.Tech. degree) from IITs with a
CGPA/CPI score of 8 on a scale of 10 and above may be admitted to the Ph.D. program under TA
or TAP positions through written test and/or interview.
IB. General Eligibility Criteria for Science Streams (Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics)
For GEN/OBC (NC): Master’s Degree in Science or equivalent degree with
a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate
OR
First class as specified by the university
OR
a minimum CGPA/CPI of 6.0 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 6.0 on other corresponding
proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.
For SC/ST/PwD: Master’s Degree in Science or equivalent degree with
a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate
OR
a minimum CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 5.5 on other corresponding
proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.
IC. General Eligibility Criteria for Humanities & Social Sciences (HSS) Streams (Economics,
Language & Literature)
For GEN/OBC (NC): Master’s Degree in Arts or equivalent degree in allied subjects with
a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate
OR
a minimum CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 5.5 on other corresponding
proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.
For SC/ST/PwD: Master’s Degree in Arts or equivalent degree in allied subjects with
a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate
OR
a minimum CGPA/CPI of 5.0 on a scale of 10 or an equivalent to 5.0 on other corresponding
proportional requirements when the scales are other than 10.
II. Candidates eligible in sections IA(b),IA(d),IB, and IC must fulfill ONE of the following additional
requirements:i) Valid GATE Score in the relevant streams
ii) Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) of CSIR/ UGC/ NBHM/ DBT/ ICAR/ ICMR/ ICPR or
iii) DST INSPIRE Fellowship in the relevant streams
iv) Candidates having UGC-NET Lectureship (LS) are also eligible for Teaching Assistantship in
addition to other academic qualifications in the Humanities & Social Sciences stream
v) Minimum of 2 years of professional experience (acquired after obtaining the qualifying degree
and completed before the starting of the semester in which admission is sought) in the relevant
areas.

Part-Time External Candidates : Candidates should be employed in recognized R&D organizations (DSIR recognition or CSIR, DRDO, ICAR, DAE, DoS,
DIT, DST, DBT, ICMR, ICAR, NGRI, GSI)
1.1.2 or companies in the private sector including financial institutions like banks
1.1.3 or Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs)
1.2 Experience and Educational Qualification Requirements
Candidates should
1.2.1 have a minimum of two (2) years of work experience at the time of application for parttime Ph.D., if they possess a Master degree (M.Tech. or equivalent) for Engineering
with minimum first class or 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 6.0 on a scale of 10 or
equivalent of 6.0 on a different scale (minimum 55% for SC/ST/PWD or CGPA/CPI of
5.5 on a scale of 10 or equivalent of 5.5 on a different scale). have a minimum of four (4) years of work experience at the time of application for parttime Ph.D., if they do not possess a master’s degree: Condition on preceding degree:
B.Tech. or equivalent for Engineering with minimum first class or 60% marks or
CGPA/CPI of 6.0 on a scale of 10 or equivalent of 6.0 on a different scale (minimum
55% for SC/ST/PWD or CGPA/CPI of 5.5 on a scale of 10 or equivalent of 5.5 on a
different scale). have a minimum of one (1) year of work experience at the time of application for parttime Ph.D., if their last degree (whether B.Tech. or M.Tech. or M.Sc. or MS by
Research) is from an IIT/IISER/IIIT/IISc/NIT: In case of B.Tech. or M.Sc., with
minimum 80% marks or CGPA/CPI of 8.0 on a scale of 10 (minimum 75% for
SC/ST/PWD or CGPA of 7.5 on a scale of 10)
1 have a minimum of one (1) year of work experience if employed as per Sub-Section and have minimum first class or 60% marks or CGPA/CPI of 6.0 on a scale of 10
or equivalent of 6.0 on a different scale (minimum 55% for SC/ST/PWD or CGPA/CPI
of 5.5 on a scale of 10 or equivalent of 5.5 on a different scale) in M.Tech degree in
Engineering;
