Summary
The Application Programmer, who oversees an application, is the technical person responsible to take ownership of the Functional Description (FD),developed by the Area Lead Programmer, to assess the understanding of the systems under their responsibility and to develop the application software.

To keep continuity from the beginning of the process until the project ends, once the FD is completed and approved, the programmer becomes responsible for the corresponding application software, up to the client handover.

The programmer is responsible for validation and testing of the controller system application. Ideally, the programmer will join the Pre-Operational Verification (POV) team to start-up and validates their dedicated system on site. When required, the programmer stays on site to support the commissioning team.

Key Responsibilities

• During Engineering and Analysis: Coordinate the effort with the Lead Area Programmer and Engineering Team
  
  • Participate in official review meetings
  • Support the Area Lead Programmer in collecting the information on the P&ID, existing programs, narratives, lists and any other available drawings or documentation
  • Interact with the different discipline engineers and supplier’s representatives
• During Programming: Program the system according to the project standards and FD
  
  • Controller Programming
  • HMI screens Programming
• During the Configuration Acceptance Tests (CAT): Test, simulate and change the system, when it is required and according to the project procedures
  
  • Test, simulate and change the system, when it is required and according to the project procedures
  • Support the Area Lead Programmer to organize CAT
  • Correct deficiencies before leaving to site
• During the transfer to site and POV: Go to the site to be part of the pre-operational team as the Automation Representative for the corresponding system
  
  • Support POV team during IO check and equipment functional tests
  • Later support commissioning and ramp-up, at client’s request
• During the Entire Process: Report the progress to the Area Lead Programmer
  
  • Report any bug or problem to the technical team
  • Maintain the deficiency list up to date

Qualifications and Experience

• B. Sc. Or B. Eng, degree in Electrical or Computer engineering
• Minimum five years’ experience in deploying industrial plant control systems, including in a control system software development environment.
• A high degree of familiarity with mineral processing facilities or other large industry.
• Familiarity with GE CIMPLICITY/PROFICY is preferred
• Proficiency with scripting languages (Python, VBA, SQL, etc.)
• Experience in commissioning and start-up
• Good safety awareness and track record
• Well-developed communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
• Capability to operate independently with good planning and organization of assigned responsibility
