Selected intern's day to day responsibilities include:

1. Sketch ideas or create renderings, which are images on paper or on a computer that provide a visual of design ideas
2. Use computer software to develop virtual models of different designs
3. Create physical prototypes of their designs
4. Examine materials and manufacturing requirements to determine production costs
5. Work with other specialists, such as mechanical engineers and manufacturers, to
evaluate whether their design concepts will fill needs at a reasonable cost
6. Evaluate product safety, appearance, and function to determine if a design is
practical
7. Consult various stakeholder about design requirements
8. Clarify and solve design issues
9. Investigate appropriate materials and production processes
10. Produce sketches and sample designs for medical devices
11. Test the product designs using models, prototypes, specialist computer software
and computer-aided design (CAD) technology
12. Maintain an awareness of current design trends and influences
13. Present designs for the internal team and capturing various designs from them
14. Research the various ways a particular product might be used, and who will use it
