The India Power Grids Operations Center (INOPC) is a competence center with around 900 skilled engineers who focus on tendering, engineering, planning, procurement, functional system testing, installation supervision and commissioning. However, over the last decade, it has evolved to become the largest engineering hub within PG Business and HVDC and FACTS engineering center outside ABB Sweden. The India Operations Centre is a key aspect of the Power Grids business Power Up transformation program. The INOPC team at Chennai supports ABB units in more than 25 countries across a wide portfolio of all the four business units in Power Grid business. To date, the team has executed engineering and commissioning for projects in more than 60 countries.
Your Responsibilities
- Preparation of SLD and system modelling from the given network.
- Perform load flow studies and short circuit analysis, relay coordination studies.
- Conduct harmonic analysis and filter design for MV and LV systems.
- Capacitor and reactor sizing calculations. Motor starting analysis.
- Study VFTO for GIS. Lightning protection and insulation coordination studies.
- Prepare design basis report and the system design calculation and conceptualize engineering plan / layout.
- Knowledge of software such as ETAP and National & International codes and standards is desirable.
- Check and analyze the basic design provided by consultants for allocated projects to ensure drawing meets the specifications. Sizing calculations of equipment: Busbar, CT, VT, Transformers.
- Battery and charger sizing.
- Protection Relay setting calculations: calculates, verifies and confirms protection settings for various schemes.
- Technical coordinator for the project: clarifications with client, suggesting new ideas.
- Validate schematics of control and protection systems.
- Design, Engineering and validation of control and protection solutions for capacitor banks - selection of control equipment, protection relays etc.
- Coordination with primary, secondary, FAT, commissioning and civil design activities and resolve issues arising in each of these stages.

Your background
- Bachelors or Masters in Electrical Engineering or any related discipline.
- 5 – 8 years of relevant work experience.
- Proficiency in required design tools (ETAP, PSCAD, DIGSILENT, MATLAB, SKM etc.).
- Knowledge of relevant International standards e.g. IEEE, IEC etc.
