The Hitachi ABB Power Grids Operations Center (INOPC) is a competence center with around 900 skilled engineers who focus on tendering, engineering, planning, procurement, functional system testing, installation supervision and commissioning. However, over the last decade, it has evolved to become the largest engineering hub. The India Operations Centre is a key aspect of the Power Grids business Power Up transformation program. The INOPC team at Chennai supports Hitachi ABB Power Grid’s units in more than 25 countries across a wide portfolio of all the four business units in Power Grid business. To date, the team has executed engineering and commissioning for projects in more than 60 countries.
Your Responsibilities
- Management of Engineering Interfaces and scope of work involved in HV - substation primary (electromechanical) design and construction projects.
- Special focus is required to be given to the technical lead of the substation scope related to Interface Engineering as well as Control & Protection design concepts for turnkey projects or engineered packages according to the project related division of work.
- Technical lead, supervise and coordinate internal engineering teams and external sub-suppliers in order to secure the integrity, completeness and correct function of the resulting substation system.
- Understanding of short circuit fault calculations, load flow principles and protection setting calculations as well as instrument transformer sizing.
- Review / commenting and understanding design studies / design documents like SLD / schematic diagrams / aux sizing calculation / overall cable lists.
- Reviewing and commenting on vendor data for a wide range of equipment and packages and incorporation of vendor information into the design.
- Co-ordination with other departments like primary, control and protection, lead engineer, sourcing etc. for design progress & completion.
- FAT / SAT of primary equipment, system as and when needed.
- Responsible for obtaining customer approvals for the designs and drawings.
- Technical risk and opportunity assessment and validation.
- Take part in customer meetings / site visits for tender/project clarifications.
- Estimation of engineering effort for each project for costing at tender stage.
- Innovative ideas to reduce engineering effort.
- Plan, implement, review and continuously improvise quality system.

Your background
- Bachelors in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
- 10-12 years of experience in Primary Engineering.
- Proficiency in required CAD design tools – Solidworks, Revit etc.
- Knowledge of relevant International standards ex. IEEE, IEC etc.
- Knowledge in substation tendering and project engineering activities (technical & commercial).
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- The ability to work to deadlines.
