Job Description

The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) is an autonomous research organization fully funded by Ministry of Earth Sciences, New Delhi. It is a premier Institute of national and international repute, devoted to research in various aspects of atmospheric sciences with emphasis on tropical meteorology, particularly on the Climate Change and Indian Monsoon. It is proposed to recruit the following posts as detailed below:

1. Name of Post: Project Manager

2. Pay: 1,25,000/- consolidated 

3. No of posts: 01

4. Essential Qualification: Ph.D. in the fields of Ocean/atmospheric sciences from a recognized University or equivalent. 20 years’ experience in project management

5. Desirable Qualification :

a. Good knowledge of Information Technology (IT) and Computer operation. Experience in heading national and international projects

b. A short write up less than a page on challenges you have overcome and innovation you made in your immediate past job may be included along with the application. Retired officials with relevant experience may also apply.

6. Job Responsibilities : He/She will be responsible for project management of Monsoon Mission. Organizing review meetings keeping records of project funds under Monsoon mission etc.

The  need to study the fundamental atmospheric problems and understand the mechanism of monsoon, weather systems and climate related processes in the tropical region, particularly over the monsoon region, became acute for India in 1950’s when the country’s post Independence economic development program was launched. Considering this urgent need the World Meteorological Organization (WMO),in its Third Congress, recommended the creation of meteorological research and training institutes in the tropical countries.
