1. Name of the position : Research Trainee (Observations)

3. Remuneration : Rs. 30,000/- per month (Consolidated)

4. Place of Posting : VBO, Kavalur

5. Qualification : MSc in Physics / Astrophysics with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks from a recognized University/Institution.

6. Experience :

a) Essential: One year experience in college/ university laboratory or in a research laboratory of a Research & Development organization.

b) Desirable: Exposure to astronomical telescopes, observations, data handling.

7. Job Description : The positions are for carrying out astronomical observations with telescopes at night. The candidates should be fit enough and willing to work full night (up to 12 hours).

The Indian Institute of Astrophysics is a premier institute devoted to research in astronomy, astrophysics and related physics. It traces its origins back to an observatory set up in 1786 at Madras which from the year 1792 began to formally function at its Nungambakkam premises as the Madras Observatory. In 1899, the observatory moved to Kodaikanal. In the year 1971, the Kodaikanal Observatory became an autonomous society, the Indian Institute of Astrophysics.
