Indian Institute of Science (IISc),Bangalore invites applications for EHS Officer – Chemical Safety in the Office of Laboratory Safety and Environmental Health (OLSEH). The details are as follows:
1. Post Name: Safety Officer
2. Essential Qualification:
a. Three- or Four - year Bachelor’s degree in Science, Engineering or EHS/Safety.
b. Candidate should have passed a PG Diploma in Safety from a recognized Degree granting institution or body. This criterion is relaxable for candidates with a Four - year Bachelor’s Degree or a Master’s Degree in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering or related disciplines
3. Desirable Qualification:
a. Two years of experience in chemical safety and in developing procedures for safe handling of chemicals in industry/ academic institutions/ regulatory body / laboratory. OR
b. Master's degree or a higher degree in chemistry/chemical engineering or related disciplines.
4. Job Description: EHS Officers will be part of the core safety management team at the institute which will be headed by the Institute’s Safety committee. Primary responsibilities include:
a. Develop guidelines and procedures for disposal of chemical waste and waste treatment.
b. Develop, document, and implement chemical and general EHS protocols at the institute.
c. Organize periodic training and enabling stakeholders to understand the principles and applications of general EHS issues.
d. Carry out EHS inspections to assess conformity of various laboratories within the institute.
e. Suggest corrective actions if any after the inspection, follow-up and help the laboratories in implementing the suggested corrective actions.
f. Assist in the development of a centralized safety portal (website) for the entire institute which would serve as a repository for safety education, training, and documentation.
g. Develop guidelines for emergency preparedness and streamline emergency response.
h. Provide periodic presentations and submit reports with statistics about the status of safety infrastructure, safety practices and their effectiveness at the institute to the Institute’s safety committee.
i. Liaison with concerned authorities for ensuring complete compliance with governmental regulations with regards to safety in the workplace and protection of the environment through prevention of environmental pollution.
j. Other responsibilities assigned by the safety committee.
5. Monthly Emoluments: Expected to be in the range of Rs. 28,000 - 56,000 per month + 24% HRA, depending on qualifications and experience.
6. Duration: Engagement is purely temporary on contract basis for a period of 2 years, on a probation period of four months from the date of your reporting for duty, may be extended for a further period based on satisfactory performance.
Age Limit:
Below 50 years as on the last date for receipt of applications. Relaxation in age is applicable as per GOI norms.
