Senior Environment Specialist (HSE Safeguard) recruitment in Department of Water Supply and Sanitation Punjab

Qualifications: Essential: At least 10 years of relevant experience in water supply & sanitation (sewerage schemes and onsite sanitation) sector and understanding of environmental, water quality and sanitation issues in context of the sector. A retired government officer or retired scientist/academician/officer from NEERI/IIT/IIM or similar institute with above experience.

Post Graduate degree in Environmental Engineering/Environmental Science and Solid Waste Management/Environmental Management with one year Diploma in Industrial Health, Safety and Environment from State Government recognised college/University/ Institute. Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare Act, Regulations and Codes of Practice. Ability to identify safety issues and prepare a comprehensive plan to achieve goals.Comprehensive knowledge of Labour Law.

Experience in Water and Waste Water Quality Monitoring.Comprehensive knowledge of Liquid Waste Management in rural area.Comprehensive knowledge of Disinfection of Drinking Water Supply Scheme.Comprehensive knowledge of Surface Water and Ground Water Supply Scheme.Comprehensive Knowledge of Onsite and Offsite Sanitation Technology options (Twin Leach Pit, Septic tank cum Soak pit, Bio digester Tank etc). Computer literate with working knowledge of MS Office, Power Point presentation, email, web surfing . Willing to travel and work extensively in rural areas of Punjab.

Desirable: Experience of working in community based Rural Water supply and Sanitation Sector with multilateral financing institutions is desirable.

Department of Water Supply and Sanitation was initially known a Public Health Branch of PWD which came into existence in the year 1956. Prior to that it was functioning as a part of Building and Roads Branch. The department was responsible for all types of Public Health Engineering Works viz. Water Supply and Sanitary installation in Government Buildings/Institutions and Public Health Engineering works in Urban Estate, grain markets etc. In the year 1975, functions of Punjab PWD(Public Health Branch) were vertically split up into three wings viz. Govt. Works, Rural Water Supply Works and Works of Local Body department.
