The Hitachi ABB Power Grids Operations Center (INOPC) is a competence center with around 900 skilled engineers who focus on tendering, engineering, planning, procurement, functional system testing, installation supervision and commissioning. However, over the last decade, it has evolved to become the largest engineering hub. The India Operations Centre is a key aspect of the Power Grids business Power Up transformation program. The INOPC team at Chennai supports Hitachi ABB Power Grid’s units in more than 25 countries across a wide portfolio of all the four business units in Power Grid business. To date, the team has executed engineering and commissioning for projects in more than 60 countries.
Your Responsibilities
- Determine cost estimate targets during the design and development process, assess design and recommending cost effective solutions.
- Gather proposals, specifications and related documents and liaise with stakeholders to convert specifications to cost estimates for new and current products.
- Utilize cost methodologies and tools and appropriate software models and packages to prepare and maintain reliable and accurate data.
- Establish cost estimates of production processes and tooling costs and review alternatives or put forward recommendations for improvement.
- Investigate and identify cost reduction opportunities through cost analysis review (Serial products, Analysis of categories).
- Provide cost estimates during change process and advise of cost impact of changes. Track and monitor activity.
- Work with stakeholders to ensure estimates are accurate and to make appropriate adjustments and resolve issues.
- Analyse supplier quotes and provide information and data, which aids communications with suppliers and customers and achieves cost optimization.
- Support supplier meetings and negotiations to challenge prices and aim for cost reductions to meet target costs.
- Define manufacturing process, operations, machines involved, labor & cycle time for requested parts.
- Support and utilize experience to aid best practice in the supplier process in conjunction with buyers.
- Support to cost out projects, Teardown & Benchmarking, VA/VE, supply base optimization projects through data analytics, spend analysis, should costing and market analysis.
- Liaise with purchasing department to provide continued feedback to ensure competitive pricing.
- Fulfilling the guidelines of SOX, OHS, EHS and compliance.
- Liaise with stakeholders and support management decisions by providing appropriate cost information and data.

Your background
- B.E / B. Tech / Diploma in Engineering.
- 5 -10 years’ experience in manufacturing & should costing domain.
- Should Costing experience in at least one of the following categories: Casting (Sand & GDC),Machining, Sheetmetal & Fabrication, Electrical & Electronics (PCBA, Motors and Other electronic parts).
- Knowledge of at least one Cost estimation software’s such as “aPriori”, PCS/PCM-Team Center, DFMA and SEER Tool-Galorath”.
- Should have good knowledge in Manufacturing process and practices.
- Ability to determine cost effective manufacturing process and able to make the global suppliers manufacturing process flow.
- Good communication skills to work with cross functional teams like Category Mgmt./ Strategic Sourcing/Global Suppliers.
- Good exposure in cost Estimation, Supplier Negotiations and Supplier assessments is important.
