Out of 1.5M engineers who pass out every year in India only 4% ( ~60k) are immediately employable.( National Institute of Employment). This gap is caused by various factors, the most prominent of which is that most engineers do not get enough hands on experience. Most other professional courses like Medicine, Law etc have a very clearly laid out and rigorous experiential aspect built into the course viz- residency, apprenticeship.  BridgeLabz is AWS recognized Incubator focused on solving the tech employability challenge. It aims to solve the problem of low employability of engineers in India, by expanding the employability pool with its ‘Maker Program’. The “Maker Program” is an unique experiential setup where fresh engineers learn coding by making cutting edge products themselves from scratch. BridgeLabz provides custom-trained talent to tech companies based on their specific tech landscape requirements and is the first organization to claim 100% guaranteed job placement to engineers on emerging technologies. BridgeLabz at the same time has an experienced engineering and product management team to incubate startup ideas, thus always being abreast of the emerging tech required by industry.

BridgeLabz was founded in 2015 by Mr. Narayan Mahadevan as part of an eight-member team with strong experience in product, business, operations and marketing. Based on the concept of ‘Maker Culture’, which emphasises on experiential learning of concepts and ideas, BridgeLabz helps build real-world expertise via hands on coding and real-time mentoring delivered to fresh engineers in the emerging tech space. The BridgeLabz team now has 50 members, including CTO, Product Managers, experienced Engineers and Designers - “Pro-Makers”, who share a common vision to solve Employability at scale. Propelled by an outcome-focused approach, the Maker Program is a 4-month long fellowship program, paid for by corporates, which serves as a boot camp for those entering the Emerging tech space.

For the Maker Program, BridgeLabz hires talent from training institutes across the country. Focused mentorship and continuous evaluation makes Maker Program successful among aspiring talent and Tech Companies. Through the program, engineers acquire new focused skills in product development that make them job-ready, and companies get the best talent to work for them on a made-to-order basis. Corporates can either source their own talent or choose to go with the talent chosen by BridgeLabz. Once these engineers finish the fellowship, they are readily deployable, as opposed to those out of regular training who usually need shadow time for around 6 months. BridgeLabz ensures that its engineers are productive from day#1 of joining the job.

BridgeLabz has a “Maker Lab” in Mumbai and has recently set up another Lab in Bangalore. It has partnered with over 150 companies, including Yatra, Capgemini, Meru Cabs, LefargeHolcim, JDA, UrbanLadder, Fullerton India and RBL bank. It has successfully made 500+ engineers employable to date, over the course of 50+ Maker Programs, and there has been a 100 percent increase in the salary paid to Makers since the inception of the program. In FY2019-20, BridgeLabz plans to surpass the previous year’s revenue four times over.
