  • A business development professional has three primary responsibilities:
  • Identifying new leads and client management
  • Pitching about the company services
  • Maintaining fruitful relationships with existing customers
  • When it comes to generating leads, day-to-day duties typically include:
  • Researching brands and individuals online to identify new leads and potential new markets
  • Contacting potential clients via email or phone to establish rapport and set up meetings
  • Planning and overseeing new marketing initiatives
  • When it comes to the challenge of actually selling of company services, other typical duties include:
  • Contacting clients to inform them about new developments in the company’s services
  • Developing and communicating the quotes and proposals to clients
  • Negotiating and renegotiating by phone, email, and in person
  • Developing goals for the team and ensuring they are met
  • Training personnel and helping team members develop their skills


  • Ability to directly lead and develop a small business unit and manage growth.
  • Authority and flexibility in co-coordinating and influencing activities across a complex departments.
  • Ability to develop strategy and manage its implementation.
  • Ability to see things through to completion in a challenging environment.
  • Customer focus and the ability to look at operations from the customer’s perspective.
